The much-anticipated ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Doha 2025 is just over two weeks away, with the event set to capture global attention from May 17-25. This historic tournament promises to be a defining moment in the sport, where new champions will emerge and legends will be made.
Fans across the world are eagerly counting down to the event, and the excitement reached new heights this Wednesday during the official draw ceremony, which revealed the pathways to sporting immortality.
Lin Shidong’s Historic World Championships Debut
The rising star of table tennis, World No. 1 Lin Shidong, has set the sport alight with his dominant performances, including wins at the WTT Grand Smash titles in China and Singapore over the past six months. Lin will make his debut in the Men’s Singles at the World Championships Finals in Doha, entering the tournament as one of the most exciting young talents in the sport.

Placed at the top of the draw, Lin’s journey to the title will be no easy feat. He faces stiff competition, including WTT Champions Montpellier winner Felix Lebrun and his talented older brother Alexis Lebrun, along with Hugo Calderano, who recently defeated Lin to claim the ITTF Men’s World Cup title.
Wang Chuqin and the Pursuit of Redemption Following his dominant performance at the WTT Champions Chongqing 2025in March, all eyes are on Wang Chuqin as he aims for glory in Doha. After narrowly losing in the final two years ago in Durban, Wang is poised for redemption. Positioned on the opposite side of the draw, Wang will face formidable opponents, including 2021 silver medallist Truls Moregard, Japanese star Tomokazu Harimoto, and former World No. 1 Dimitrij Ovtcharov.
Women’s Singles: Sun Yingsha Eyes Back-to-Back Glory In the Women’s Singles, Sun ingsha continues to be the favourite, topping the seeding list and aiming to lift the Geist Prize once again. Sun enters a draw brimming with talent, with potential rivals such as Shin Yubin, Mima Ito, and former medallist Wang Yidi all standing in her path.
As the No. 2 seed, Wang Manyu is eager to reclaim the title she won in 2021, and a rematch between her and Sun Yingsha could be on the horizon. With both players positioned in opposite halves of the draw, the possibility of a repeat of their 2021 final is high.
Additionally, the Women’s Singles will witness the World Championships Finals debut of rising stars Miwa Harimotoand Satsuki Odo. The 16-year-old sensation Harimoto finds herself in a challenging half of the draw, alongside Wang Manyu and Chen Xingtong, while Odo heads to the opposite side.
